Training Overview
In November/December 2021, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Public Transit Office provided two-day virtual training workshops to provide transit planners with hands-on experience using the Transit Boardings Estimation and Simulation Tool (TBEST) tool. TBEST supports a wide range of transit strategic and service planning activities including alternatives analysis for Transit Development Plans, Operational Analysis, and FTA Title VI reporting. TBEST offers transit data development and analytics tools including GTFS import, ridership estimation, socio-economic and land use market analysis, network accessibility analysis, scenario network comparison, Mobility-on-Demand analysis and much more.
Course Content
Day 1: Students utilized the TBEST Data Downloads feature to access the most recent Florida TBEST network and socio-economic data builds. Students updated the “Gatorville” transit system using the TBEST operations and policy settings, socio-economic growth tools, fare editor, stop editor, validation tools and the TBEST ridership forecasting model in preparation for model validation. Students evaluated the current transit service and network application scenarios to fulfill reporting requirements described in the Florida TDP Handbook. Students created transit network application scenarios using the TBEST GTFS Import tool and TBEST Network Editor.
Day 2: Students explored TBEST data development, reporting and analysis tools which support a variety TDP, COA, FTA Title VI, Accessibility and Mobility-on-Demand analysis applications.
