Canadian census data« Back to Questions List

Hi, I would like to know if its possible to use TBEST for a Canadian transit agency . We also use GTFS but the census data are not the same. Is it possible to create new socio-economic files from the Canadian census? Thank you, Sylvain

Sylvain,

As far I can determine tell after briefly reviewing data from the 2011 Canadian Census, it would be possible to create at least a portion of the TBEST socio-economic variables using Canadian data. In the file that I downloaded at the dissemination area geography level, many variables were present that are compatible with TBEST. However, some variables are missing including income, vehicle ownership, and work status. This missing data may be assembled at a different geography level that I have yet to review so it may be possible to utilize data at varying geographies. As far as assembling the data for use in TBEST, the approach would be to mimic the structure of the existing Florida socio-economic data and migrate the Canadian Census data into that structure.
