TBEST 5.2 Installation and Configuration Instructions
Step 1: Administrative Login
A System Administrator logs in to perform the installation on a target Windows 11 computer.
Step 2: Software Download
Download the TBEST 5.2 installation file located on the TBEST website. Users must be registered and signed in to the TBEST website to enable the installation files download.
- TBESTSetup_5***.exe - Installs the TBEST prerequisites, TBEST program and all supporting data files.
Step 3: TBEST Installation
Installation Procedure:
- Administrators can execute the TBESTSetup.exe from any local drive.
- If not already present, the TBESTSetup.exe will install Microsoft .NET 10 and the Microsoft Visual C++ (x64) Redistributable version 14.44.35207 or higher.
During the installation, the TBEST 5.2 Data directory will be created on the local Windows volume drive. The default location is
C:\TBEST50, however this location can be modified during the installation process. This directory will store operational TBEST databases, Model Packages and Add-Ins.
-
After installation is complete, the Administrator must set the following permissions for the local Windows user account utilizing TBEST:
-
Enable Read\Execute\Modify\Write permissions for the entire TBEST 5.2 data directory including all subdirectories.TBEST 5.2 will not open unless the permissions have been set for this folder.
-
Verify that the Read Only folder attribute on the TBEST 5.2 data directory and all subdirectories is set to false.
Note: Corporate software deployment services can be configured to run the TBEST 5.2 installation in silent mode to deploy to multiple users within the organization.
Note: TBEST 4.8 and TBEST 5.2 can both be installed at the same time without any conflicts. If you are going to convert TBEST 4.8 data to TBEST 5.2, don't uninstall TBEST 4.8 until the data migration is complete.
Step 4: Display Scaling
TBEST 5.2 will scale correctly when the Windows Display Settings Scale is set at 100%, 125% or 150%, with the optimum scaling at 100%. TBEST will not open when the Display Scale is set above 150%.
Step 5: Use of ArcGIS Pro
In most cases, TBEST 5.2 does not require ArcGIS Pro to be installed on the local machine.
Below are situations where TBEST utilizes ArcGIS Pro:
-
Required: The TBEST Legacy TBEST Data Conversion tool requires ArcGIS Pro when converting TBEST 4.8 Transit Systems, Socio-Economic Data Packages and Workflow Support Tool Result Sets to TBEST 5.2. This tool is only needed during initial TBEST 5.2 migration/configuration.
-
Optional: Publish exported TBEST Maps and Map Layers into a formatted ArcGIS Pro Layout.
Note: If it is determined that the TBEST user will need access to ArcGIS Pro, install and open ArcGIS Pro to license the local copy. Note that TBEST 5.2 ArcGIS Pro functions were developed using ArcGIS Pro 3.7.1.
Step 6: Opening TBEST
Launch TBEST 5.2 from the Windows Start menu or from the Desktop shortcut and verify that it opens correctly. If TBEST does not open, review the previous steps to verify that each has been performed correctly. If TBEST still does not open or if there are other technical issues, please contact TBEST Technical Support.
Step 7: Esri ArcGIS Login
On startup, TBEST 5.2 will prompt users to login to an organizational or personal Esri ArcGIS Online account. The login interface provides options to access ArcGIS Online or Enterprise accounts via user name and password, Active Directory and other corporate login methods in use by your organization. For more information on Esri ArcGIS Login options, refer to Section 2.5 of the TBEST User Guide.
Esri ArcGIS Pro licensing:
- To enable full TBEST functionality, the user login must have access to an ArcGIS Pro Basic, Standard or Advanced license.
- If an ArcGIS Pro license is not attached to the user account, TBEST will open in Lite Mode which provides primarily read-only access to TBEST features.
Step 8: TBEST Software Updates
TBEST Software Update Information
